Katrina’s Zen Kin® Cousins Project Update
It is November! I am so happy to have you here reading my November 1st post. It is such a one-sided activity to write to readers here when I am not at all sure who will be taking their time to read this. I do feel certain that some of you are my friends and some of you are yet to become my friends. To all of your readers, I thank you for being here.
Today I want to talk about my wonderful project once again. I am both happy and a little sentimental that it is coming to an end. In February, when I began the project called Katrina’s Zen Kin® Cousins Project, I had a lot of emotion as I wondered if anyone would participate. Today I share with you a list of participants so far (at the bottom of this post) and I am very hopeful that if you are not on this list, you will consider adding your name soon!
The project consists of watching my video that gives instructions on how to draw a Zen Kin® Cousins. Zen Kin® are my creations depicting a character with tangles for hair. Tangles are deconstructed patterns. The method of drawing is a fun, relaxing, easy to learn method called Zentangle®. You may learn about Zentangle by going to Zentangle.com.
The project requires the participant to draw a cousin and send it to me in the mail. It is drawn on a 3.5 x 3.5 piece of white paper or an official Zentangle tile of the same size.
The creator makes a second cousin and keeps that cousin in their home to connect them to the project. The cousins sent to me join with other cousins from around the world. There is a wall of cousins that signifies the connection we all have during this time of pandemic-induced separation.
You still have time to participate as the end date for receiving these cousins at my address is December 31, 2021. I plan to publish a book to highlight this project and that book should be available during the early months of 2022.
This project was conceived to spread joy and foster community during a global pandemic when many have felt a loss of connection with one another. Please consider taking some time to be a part of this amazing coming together through art and joy. You do not need to have any drawing experience in order to participate. You don’t even need to know anything about Zentangle. My video will guide you. The images are whimsical and the philosophy of the method of drawing them is that there are no mistakes. The whole point of drawing is for the enjoyment and relaxation during the drawing process. The whimsical nature of the Zen Kin® Cousin is yet another reason not to fear the act of drawing. Crooked lines and uneven smiles add character and are welcome and appreciated.
Let’s see just how many Zen Kin® Cousins we might add to the Wall of Cousins. Your unique contribution is what I am eager to see!
I adore and appreciate each and every one of these delightful characters and the joy that spreads through the community of creators is real. The joy spreads with each new addition to the Zen Kin® Cousins family.
