Another Update for Katrina’s Zen Kin® Cousins Project

Sometimes I get so excited that I get the cart before the horse. I had explained the project so many different places but when I just read the first post that I posted on here about the project I realized that I had not even really described the project at all. I posted the video only. Well, I was able to edit that post. For clarification though, I want to include here the way I describe it with the video.

Katrina’s Zen Kin® Cousins Project is a worldwide project to encourage community through art. I am a Certified Zentangle® Teacher, an artist, and the creator Zen Kin®. My whimsical characters drawn with tangles for hair and done using the Zentangle® Method of drawing have won the hearts of many. In this video I will guide participants of this project through easy steps to make a Zen Kin® Cousin. After completion, the actual Zen Kin® Cousin artwork will be sent on a journey to my home where I will display the collection in a worldwide “Wall of Cousins.” Through the making of an additonal Zen Kin® Cousin that will be kept by the participant I hope to foster community. Knowing that the participants have contributed from across the globe and that the artwork will be in one place together and also in each participant’s home will hopefully bring a feeling of community amongst the participants and all who see the wall. Please take a look and see if you might find joy in following my instruction and being a part of this meaningful experience. No previous art experience is necessary to do this project. You will need a Micron 01 pen or similar, two Zentangle® tiles or two 3 1/2x 3 1/2 inch pieces of paper, a regular pencil, a Q-tip or tortillon, and an envelope with a stamp to get to USA. Through the use of the provided YouTube caption translations, I hope to be able include people from all over the world in this project. For updates on this project, go to katrinaszenkin.com. Thank you, Katrina

I am having so much fun getting the first Zen Kin® Cousins in the mail. Every day is a joy for me. The project does not have an end date yet as I want to see how it unfolds. I will keep you updated and I will give a couple week’s notice before I end the project.

I have been looking through some of my Zen Kin® of my own and have shared some fun ones here.

I hope you enjoy some of these old ones. I hope you have considered being a part of this wonderful project! Thank you for your support! Katrina

These are so awesome, and I have seen so many people create them since you posted yours.. they love what you have done! But it has sparked my brain to do what it always does… go AWAY from the crowd.. not follow. I’ve never been a true part of anything by conforming to patterns and ways etc.. I go my own path, even if it fails. That being said… ideas are taken from everywhere in life… and your cousins inspired me. So thank you. 🙂

You are very welcome. It is nice to encourage others to find their own path and their own artistic expression. These Zen Kin® Cousins were my way of giving permission for others to enjoy something I created. The goal of the project is to spread joy and foster community through making and sharing Zen Kin® Cousins through a global project. I wish you the best in your own path and am honored to hear that you were inspired.
