The Zen Kin Cousins Postcard Art Project: Let’s Add Your Country and Your State!

I am so excited that this project is underway, and that so many have already taken part — 34 Zen Kin Cousins have arrived so far, from 13 states and 4 countries, and I am grateful for each and every one of them. It amazes me that ink on paper, sent through the postal system, has made the artists who drew these Cousins, and the Cousins themselves, part of a very special group — a family of cousins with one purpose: to spread joy.

From the United States, I have Cousins from California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee. And beyond the United States, they have also come from Australia, Canada, and The Netherlands.

Each one is unique and special, and together they make the sweetest group — I just love seeing them all together. But they are hoping to meet more cousins, and they would so love to welcome more from their own parts of the world, and from every part of the world.

This project belongs to everyone who takes part, and I know there are many, many more of you out there contemplating being a part of this wonderful sharing of joy and this warm, inviting community. I can’t help dreaming a little bigger: I would love to have every state in the United States represented, and as many countries as possible.

I hope I am able to pull this all together in the end, so that this project will be something not only unique, but representative of what the Zentangle method is about — and of how a community can become a reality through simply participating in a project such as this.

I am so grateful that an idea I had is becoming a reality — the participation and the interest so far have been so satisfying, and I hope more people will have the opportunity to join. The only way I am spreading the news about this project is through social media, so every little bit of help is appreciated. When you suggest it to friends and family, of all ages and all genders, and explain the joy that can be found in tangling through this project, hopefully it will encourage even more people to experience the benefits of this wonderful method of drawing.

And to all of you CZTs, Certified Zentangle Teachers, who already spread joy in so many various ways throughout the world — I hope you will consider sharing this project with your students and letting them know this opportunity exists. You are already so creative and passionate about spreading joy and relaxation through this method, and the projects you have facilitated and the groups of teachers you have joined together to spread this method of drawing have been astounding. I appreciate each one of you and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to be among you, as a Certified Zentangle Teacher. The gratitude that we have for each other, and the gratitude that the students experience through your guidance, is such a warm, loving feeling. This project gives you one more possibility of participation in something that your students may find uplifting.

Let’s add your country and your state! Draw a whimsical Zen Kin Cousin, choose an uplifting, encouraging word to send out into the world with them, and send them my way. You’ll find the instructions and video, including the simple specifics, at katrinaszenkin.com.

I look forward to seeing your cousin soon.

Fondly,

Your cousin Katrina
