About Me

My name is Katrina Thiebaut, CZT 22, 32, and 36. I am a mother, grandmother, stepmother and step grandmother, and step great grandmother. I am happily married and have been 46 years. I enjoy spending time with my grandchildren and my children. I am an amateur potter, and I love to collect antiques and enjoy looking through old pictures and treasures handed down through generations of family. My family is my joy.

I have a goal in life to spread joy and receive joy.  I can do that with my art. The artistic endeavor that excites me the most is tangling. I tangle daily using the Zentangle® method of drawing.  Zentangle® is an easy to learn, relaxing and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. There are 8 basic steps in the Zentangle® method: Gratitude and Appreciation, Corner Dots, Border, String, Tangle, Shade, Initial and Sign and Appreciate. Zentangle® Art is nonrepresentational with no up or down. The artistic creations unfold without pre-planning or expectations.

I am a certified Zentangle® teacher, which means that I have taken the teacher seminar from the founders of Zentangle®, Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas. I have taken this seminar 3 different times even though it is only required once to be a teacher. I enjoy the instruction and the community that each seminar presents. I am also the creator of Zen Kin®. They are my whimsical characters drawn with hair that is comprised of tangles. Tangles are deconstructed patterns that consist of elemental strokes. If you are not familiar with Zentangle®, or Tangles, please find all the information you need at Zentangle.com. The founders of Zentangle® have done an excellent job of explaining their method and all things related to Zentangle®. Their website also lists Certified Zentangle® Teachers that would be glad to have you join one of their basic Zentangle® classes. The most effective way to learn about the method and philosophy behind the method is to go to the source. There are many benefits using Zentangle® philosophies and methods that reach beyond the beautiful art.

After discovering Zentangle®, I decided to try using tangles as hair and my journey has expanded and flourished. I drew my first Zen Kin® in 2014 and have drawn hundreds since then.  I have designed and facilitated a worldwide project with artwork from people all over the world and have gifted Zen Kin images to more than 1000 people.  My artistic life revolves around Zentangle® and my Zen Kin®.
